Fancy Froglin's Sexy Forest
By James Kochalka

"It's my dink, it's my dink, it's a magic finger," sang James Kochalka: "Pointing at all the pretty girls." Like that song, Fancy Froglin's Sexy Forest is all about the boner, so we might as well get that out of the way right up front.
Now that we've driven off anyone too uptight to get the joke, this slim, full-colour graphic novel collects a number of online strips about the horny blue frog, and his cohorts in the sexy forest, Some Bunny and Uncle Funky. They're all aimed at mature readers with an immature sense of humour, but they're so goofy and exhuberent that it's completely inoffensive. Fancy is simple, perhaps single-minded in the joy he takes in his boner, and man, does he ever want to share the joy, offering the chance to touch his greatness to every passing rabbit and butterfly.
Occasionally things don't go Fancy's way, and he loses his boner. "I am utterly without boner," he laments -- a grim visit to the flip side of his bipolar obsession.
The best, dirtiest piece here is "A Very Fancy X-Mas," which provides an alternate colour scheme and an amusing chuckle at the punchline.
The real punchline of the entire production, though, is the author photo on the last page. While $12.95 is a pretty steep price for the entertainment value to be found here, the fairly glorious colour and that closing photo will justify the investment to any longtime Kochalka reader, guaranteeing a joyous boner for all.
