ICv2's sales analysis left me feeling a little short on details, so I did a little analysis of my own to compare month-to-month sales:
To me, that looks like total revenue is up 10% for July over June, pushed by an increase in comics sales. Not sure what caused the dip in GN sales in May and June, but July recovered nicely without a single breakaway revenue-generator.
In case you want to see the actual totals I got:
| Month |
Top 300 Comics |
Top 50 Graphic Novels |
Total Sales |
| March |
$15,880,290.13 | $2,566,119.92 | $18,446,410.05 |
| April |
$16,685,426.89 | $2,601,027.77 | $19,286,454.66 |
| May |
$15,860,217.09 | $2,444,598.75 | $18,304,815.84 |
| June |
$16,119,363.15 | $2,293,547.89 | $18,412,911.04 |
| July |
$17,828,869.32 | $2,582,146.94 | $20,411,016.26 |
Methodology: Using
ICv2's estimated sales (based on Diamond's bizarre reported sales ratio), multiplied by the cover price of the items, summed over the top 300 comics and the top 50 graphic novels. I only went back to March 2003 since that was the first month Diamond reported actual sales as opposed to just pre-orders.
