Michael Chabon at the VA Book Festival

I got to see Michael Chabon read a deleted chapter from The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and answer a few questions at the Virginia Book Festival last week. He is a very funny person which made it a very entertaining event. He explained that he is enjoying trying to convince non-comic writers to try writing comic stories for his Escapist comic because he does not like categories. He also commented on writing comics, which he feels is a different task from prose writing because you have three elements, the captions, the dialog, and the images in the panel, to work with, and each of these can contradict the other. He seemed to be excited by the possibilities although he admitted he was still getting used to it. I just hope that Dark Horse is happy with the sales so that he gets a chance to keep blurring some of those category boundaries.
