Robots that can kill you

This friday, in SF, except at this show you actually get to control the robots. Hah! Of course, I will probably not go for lack of someone to take with.

The best gift ever?

My vote:

Someone who is there for the annoying, whiny, mopey, sad times in addition to the happy, excited, fun, crazy times.

Cubs Lose!

Proving that all is normal in the world after all, the cubs lost today.

It was upsetting to me, but I think I am accepting it now. What fun is it being a fan of a winning team, anyways? What do you learn from that? Losing teams teach you about patience and heartbreak, remaining optimistic in the face of bad things.

Although I am still not sure how I started paying attention to sports again, but it seems to coincide with my inability to watch fictional TV series. Perhaps there is something nice about unexpected endings?

The universal sport?

People always say soccer (football!) is the world's most popular sport, but maybe it is actually the universe's most popular sport?

Although, if you actually take the time to read the article it seems more likely that the universe is actually infinite. Oh well.

Alton Brown Interview

This Alton Brown interview gives a nice background for how the show came to be, and how much effort he (and his wife!) put in to making the show happen. He seems like a nice guy, which is always a good thing to find out.

Cubs win!

When I was a kid, I liked baseball. I started out as a Brewers fan, since that was the local team, but when I got a little older I became a Cubs fan. That was the team my grandpa liked, and I could see all their games on cable. I spent a lot of afternoons watching the Cubs lose and laughing at the strange things Harry Carey would say. My dad was even nice enough to take me to see some Cubs games at Wrigley Field, which is still my favorite baseball stadium. The '89 season was a heartbraker, though, seeing the cubs finally make it to the playoffs and then lose out to San Francisco.

I gradually fell out of the baseball habit, though, and don't really follow it very anymore. Seeing the Cubs make it back to the playoffs this year, though, felt a little bittersweet for me knowing that this was the first season my grandpa wasn't around to see them play. I don't know if he had been following them that closely the past few years, but I'm sure he would have liked to see them make another run at it.

And it seems like I better get this written before the Cubs find a way to lose the series.
