Best of 2005
The best thing for me this year should be obvious but let's see if there are some other categories to consider my favorites in:
Movie: Hotel Rwanda
TV Show: Arrested Development (this was a pretty limited category this year, since it was a year entirely without cable)
Book: The Pleasure of Finding Things Out (subject to change once I take a closer look through the books I read this year)
Comic: Scott Pilgrim
Gadget: iPod Nano
Online thing: Netflix
Album: the Mountain Goats, The Sunset Tree
Concert: the Mountain Goats, Denton, TX
New Band (to me): tie, Spoon and the Eels (thanks, Roger!)
New Restaurant (to me): Ino, Dallas, TX (because having reasonable Japanese food available makes Dallas much better)
Late night event: The all-night Dallas Museum of Art closing party for the Emperor Qianlong exhibit
And the least favorite / most disappointing:
Movie: Star Wars Episode 3
TV Show: Jay Leno (why does NBC always have to be our least-staticy channel?)
Comic: Serenity (just because the resolution of the blue hands agents from the TV show was so lame)
Gadget: The new laptop from Dell that Vicky bought which was nearly crippled by all of the junky software Dell chose to put on, not to mention the huge swing towards the hideously ugly school of design they seem to have taken.
Concert: U2 (ok, I wasn't a huge fan going in, and there were some entertaining parts, but ehhh...)
New Restaurant: Mr. Sushi, Dallas, TX (oh right, bad sushi is really bad. there was an unfortunately long list of entrants in this category)
Album: Jan Smith, 29 Dances (I probably heard albums I liked less than this, but it was very disappointing and I liked it much less than the old album)
I will probably think of lots of things I forgot later, but I have learned not to push my luck by delaying these things any more than necessary.
The Year In Blogging
OK, I was a pretty terrible blogger this year. Lowest number of posts since I started doing this, no real significant content. So now that it is that time of year where I think about new year's resolutions, I am considering what kind of goals I should have for this thing for next year. More regular posting? Restarting the reviews? Talking about work? I actually think I am more likely to start the work blog as a separate thing. (Please note: that is not a resolution at this time.)
Anyways, more year-end thoughts to occur as I try to bump up the yearly post count!
