Things you are not supposed to mail

While looking up how much it costs to send thank-you cards internationally, I learned that each country has their own restrictions on what you are not allowed to send through the mail. This seems common for things like firearms, drugs, or even human remains. But some countries seem to have strange restrictions that I can't figure out. For example:

  • Germany: "Playing cards, except in complete decks properly wrapped."

  • Taiwan: "Coins over one hundred years old."

  • Canada: "Oleomargarine and other butter substitutes, including altered or renovated butter."

  • Great Britain: "Horror comics and matrices."

I guess I will have to only include the thank-you monogrammed oleomargarine for people living in the U.S. for now. Sorry, Canada!
